Greater benefits for many in their daily battle of life.
BLESSED ARE THE FAT                   By  Phil Guerena Sr.

Certainly being physically fat is unhealthy.  Some overweight people weigh 500 pounds or more.  Many overweight people seem to have problems with their health and wellbeing.  Actually we must watch our weight and not allow ourselves to be heavier than we should be.  But this takes daily discipline, eating moderately and exercising.   Some people have become famous by losing 300 pounds, or more.  I go to the gym three times a week and walk every day.  When I miss a week or more at the gym, I gain three to five pounds.  Therefore I must double my efforts to keep at it.  I hear people complain that they do not like going to the gym because every time they go they get tired.   After a while I do not see them there anymore.  But going through a good routine in order to stay well is hard work.  That is why it is called a work out.   Most people in the Bible did a lot of walking every day.
The diet of over eaters is amazing.  Some eat 5 to ten chickens a day or at one meal.  They are constantly overeating in order to maintain their desired outcome, being very heavy.  Now there are two kinds of healthy fatness in the Bible.  The first one is having fat bones and the second one is having a fat soul.  This is the fat that God recommends and blesses.
Fat bones are heathy and strong.  Proverbs 15:30: “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.”  (KJV)  It also states in Proverbs 3:8 of getting marrow to the bones.  My wife seems to always give me good advice.  She shared with me how her bones were weak and that I could avoid that by taking vitamins that strengthens them.  I took her advice and started doing this.  Also I drink milk every morning with my cold cereal.  I include a banana with this meal to help my arthritis.  Once when I went out to a ball game with my son and grandson, it was dark and I was trying to keep up with them.   I was unexpectedly walking fast and hard, and I ran into a concrete slab.  My bones really hurt but no harm was done nor was anything broken.  Then I realized that I had fat bones.
“The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat,” Proverbs 13:4,KJV.  Also Proverbs 11:25.  The older translations say fat soul but the newer ones say a prosperous soul.  The beauty of Proverbs 13:4 is that it states that a diligent soul will be made fat.  Diligence is the key for a thriving spiritual being. There is no measureable instrument nor any way that spiritually healthy persons can be assessed.
However there is a list of the fruits of the spirit that are given in Galatians 5:22-23, the seven fruits start with love and end with self-control.   These are two the book ends that uphold the manifestations of walking in the Spirit.  But it must not be overlooked that just before this list there is another one that unmasks the person walking in the flesh.  There are at least 16 outbreaks of the flesh that are mentioned in Gal. 5:19-21 which starts with sexual immorality and being unfaithful, and ends with worldly parties.  These usually give full vent to the flesh.  Don’t forget the sins in verse 20… strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, and divisions are given as works of the flesh and not of the Spirit.
Now we must not think of overeating for the spiritual man, but in diligently eating constantly for healthy souls.  You cannot read nor study the Bible too much.  I knew of a new Christian who read the Bible ten times in one year.  He was so much more mature in knowledge of Scripture and spiritual warfare than almost anyone else who had attended church for many years.  A congregation of 500 or more people elected him to be the Sunday school superintendent.  He was also a very generous man with his income, due to being an excellent business man.   Listen or hear is the message that the Bible yells out to the one who would seek the Lord.  In the beginning God gave man just one commandment and he failed.  It is well put, “Hear O Israel…  (Duet. 6:4-5).”   The last book in the Bible, Revelation has messages for seven churches.  Each one is told, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
“But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would have none of me.  So I gave them up to their own hearts’ lust and they walked in their own counsels.  Oh that my people had hearkened unto me…”  Psalm 81:11-13.
When reading the Bible it is God speaking to us, His voice is talking to us.  Someone has well said that the Ten Commandments is a love letter from God to us.  He explains to us how to love Him and one another.  He wants to direct our steps and lives.  They were written on stone by the finger of God.  He accepts no corrections nor updates on His holy utterances.  There are many portions that we can memorize for guidance and blessings in obeying His perfect will.  Jesus is called The Word of God, The Way, The Truth and The life.  Many times He personally invites us to come to Him.  But there is war in our flesh, stubbornness and arrogance.
Bombarding the voices of hell is done by daily listening to the voice of God.   Then in the world and the flesh we become His disciples walking in His ways.  How many hours a day do we spend reading and studying the Word?  This depends on us getting up early every day all the time to do this; we must have an appointment with Him every morning.   Then we must find other moments and hours when we can continue our fight the odds against us that are in this world of darkness.   I like to keep a journal of my reading so that I may know where I have been and where I am going.  One Proverb a day plus five Psalms is only the beginning for my reading all the Bible all the time.  Billy Graham uses this method and I find it very useful for myself.
The last message to the last church in the Book of Revelation was for them and us. “Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come to him, and sup with him, and he with me,” Rev. 3:20.  This is the way to have a fat soul, listen to Him all the time.   “I love those that love me and those that seek me early shall find me, Proverbs 8:17.”
